Yes very recently Google upgraded its Web Spam algorithm named as Penguin to fight and UN index websites fall under category of Spam. For higher SEO it is sometimes common that company used paid back link or reciprocal linking or link exchange in order to increase Search engines visibility. All these are now count as Negative SEO practice by Google spam fighting team.
Traditional Search Engine algorithm and Google’s Page Ranking system previously counted them as more voting power and categories them as an important website. This simple but effective technique was later utilized by web spammer now officially recognized as bad practice or Negative SEO.
Soon after Google’s update people started complaining about some ineffective results of the algorithm. In some cases “The official Viagra site wasn’t listed”, while hacked sites were!! An empty web site was listed for “make money online,” and there were reports of other empty sites ranking well. Scraper sites were reported outranking the sites they scraped.
To tackle such issues Matt Cutts the distinguished engineer who leads the Google’s web spam team announced the feedback form for Penguin. Matt tweeted yesterday “If you want to report spam that Google is missing, fill out a spam report and add the word penguin,” He said that many of these issues existed before Penguin launched and were not caused by the new spam-fighting algorithm. So far the team is happy with the Penguins performance.
However if you are hit by Penguin then it is very difficult thing to recover. Anyone hit by Penguin due to spamming Google have no option now to request Google for any reconsider!
Google specifically said reconsideration request will not make any difference and will only recover naturally if they clean the Spam.
According to some industry experts sites are hit by Penguin seems to have bad linking practices. Poor quality reciprocal linking or purchased links with network is heavily targeted by Google.
It is now clear Google prefers relevant Quality content than quantity of search results.
